A Dialogue about Dialogicality: Getting a Hold on Dialogue in the Classroom
Jed Hopkins; Aaron Yost
English Journal, v104 n6 p31-35 2015
Textual production is a human dialogical business--an aspect of humanness and mutual connectedness--that is too easily forgotten and yet it has important implications for teaching. Using dialogue can result in learning where receptiveness and openness to new possibilities are valued above such things as task completion and the fulfilling of predetermined objectives. This article presents a dialogue that emerged as an email exchange between two secondary English teachers. They describe various pedagogical ideas related to dialogical pedagogy and assessment.
