Accreditation, Ranking, and Higher Education Quality: A Global View
Fashaad Crawford; Kaitlyn Mittan
Assessment Update, v37 n2 p12-13 2025
Accreditation can serve as an accountability mechanism for higher education, ensuring institutions meet specific standards, which can be impacted by various factors including the regulatory environment of each country or local jurisdiction as well as an institution's mission, enrollment, and student success trends. In addition, higher education accreditation can be used to improve the internal quality of an institution and its learning activities (Acevedo-De-los-Ríos and Rondinel-Ovideo 2021). Higher education accreditation can also impact the international and/or national recognition of an institution. This article explores differences in higher education accreditation structures across various countries that house the highest ranked institutions in the world.
