In the teaching of social studies, the use of funds of knowledge is beneficial for children to understand different experiences and perspectives. Families use funds of knowledge to teach their children what is important and valuable in their culture. In the case of Latino families, being bilingual is part of their history while for other families becoming bilingual means acculturating to a new sociocultural environment. Some families conduct their life using two languages seamlessly using oral and written stories thus supporting biliteracy development. "Cuentos Festivos de Mi Gente" (Festive Stories of My People) is a biliteracy family event with a focus on social studies held at WestSide Head Start located in a historically Mexican American neighborhood in Texas. The families selected and shared their cultural traditions associated with memorable family celebrations with the children, teachers, and other families through bilingual oral presentations, visuals, digital resources, and written texts.
