Heather Vellers; Angela Lumpkin
Journal on Excellence in College Teaching, v36 n1 p47-55 2025
Caring is a key instructor characteristic in higher education with transformative potential. Instructor caring fosters deep connections with students, both inside and outside the classroom, and has consistently proven to be a potent catalyst for student success. Due to the residual effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of having caring instructors can be life-changing for students. When implemented effectively, caring for students creates a powerful interpersonal dynamic that can enhance student success without overburdening instructors. In fact, it often leads to their greater satisfaction and fulfillment.
