Building a Pedagogic Research Community of Practice Using Social Spaces
Mark Warnes; Simon Pratt-Adams
Journal on Excellence in College Teaching, v36 n1 2025
This article outlines the formation and ongoing development of a Pedagogic Research Community of Practice using physical and digital social spaces. Community meetings, writing retreats, writing cafés, and an annual conference offer opportunities to interact, network, and form multi-disciplinary research teams. Supplementing these synchronous social spaces are online repositories allowing colleagues to share scholarly outputs. Evaluation of the writing retreat components reveals how community members value protected time for writing, exposure to new writing habits, collegiality, a sense of belonging and networking opportunities. Evaluation of the Pedagogic Research Directory shows how it provided a focal point for the community.
