Journal of Educational Research and Innovation, v12 n1 Article 7 2024
Objective: This study sought to explore the optimum factor structure among the three subsections of The Experience of Teaching and Learning Questioner (ETLQ). Method: Exploratory factor analysis was employed to compare four competing exploratory models within the Approaches to Learning and Studying, Perceptions of the Teaching-Learning Environment and Demands Made by Unit sections of the ETLQ. Results: A four-factor solution was found to be the best fit for the Approaches to Learning and Studying subsection which included some overlap with the original ETLQ factors. The Perceptions of the Teaching-Learning Environment yielded a nine-factor solution with little to no overlap with the original ETLQ structure. The Demands made by Unit and Learning Achieved subsection resulted in a four-factor solution with some overlap with the originally suggested structure. Conclusion: While the ELTQ may have a sound theoretical foundation for its sections and subscales, this EFA did not statistically support the proposed structures of the original measure.
