Independent scores for masculinity and femininity were derived from the California Psychological Inventory responses. High masculine/high feminine were regarded as the most psychologically healthy, and low masculine/low feminine as the most inadequate. High masculine/low feminine and low masculine/high feminine were viewed as cultural sex stereotypes. (NG)
