Building a Foundation of Excellence
Sharron DeRosier; Angela Atwell
Journal of Faculty Development, v38 n1 p73-75 2024
Whether required or optional, faculty professional development offerings must be built upon a strong foundation and scaffolded to provide structure and support initially, with increasing theoretical connections and practical applications. Understanding the faculty population and providing experiences that meet their needs, while also providing appropriate challenges, is critical. The three programs described in this article do just that. Beginning with a required, facilitated experience that outlines "need to knows" for an online classroom, then scaffolding to an optional, gamified, just-in-time offering building on that foundation to enhance instructional practice. Finally, an advanced certification provides an outlet to showcase these skills.
