Studies in Art Education: A Journal of Issues and Research in Art Education, v65 n4 p509-526 2024
The authors conducted a workshop on video creation using artworks from a museum collection as materials. The aim of the study was to examine how video creation can involve a variety of people, organizations, concepts, themes, and politics and sustain interest in art. The project was developed in collaboration with a university, an art museum, a local government, and a nonprofit organization in Japan and involved 10 participants with diverse attributes, including three disabled people. The results of a postworkshop survey conducted immediately afterward, and a follow-up survey conducted 1 year and 2 months after the workshop, revealed that many participants were still interested in the museum and artworks, and they remained engaged in the filmmaking they had learned. Ultimately, the study provides strategies for conducting art projects in multiple contexts.
