Is Student Success an Outcome or Process?: A Student Led Definition and Description
Jordan Arellanes; Amelia Noël-Elkins; Jennifer Friberg
College Student Journal, v56 n4 p411-421 2022
In May 2021, College Pulse asked undergraduate students about their educational experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey's last question asked students, "What does being successful mean to you?" One student's response was, "FINALLY - THIS was the question that should have been asked decades ago." This student's response indicates one of the most significant issues surrounding student success: programs, organizations, and initiatives are often created around the institutional definition of student success (Prichard & Wilson, 2003; Wade, 2019). Rarely do we, as academics, ask students themselves how they define success.
