Accounting Students' Perceptions of Teaching and Assessment Methods

Journal of Education for Business, v99 n6 p371-380 2024
Due to the current shortage of accountants and the various pipeline initiatives taking place, our research aims to address the instructor's role in the accounting classroom. We survey students on their perceptions regarding teaching and assessment methods used in university accounting courses. Results for both in person and online courses suggest students prefer instruction that involves instructor demonstration of exercises and real-world examples, while relying on the instructor's personal experiences with accounting. We offer valuable perspectives to educators aiming to improve both the caliber of accounting education and the student learning experience to help combat the drastic shortage.
