About Campus, v29 n2 p4-15 2024
For many international students in the United States, access to adequate mental health support and resources had been a challenge long before the outbreak of COVID-19, and pandemic-related stressors continue to influence their present lives. To address international student mental health concerns in US higher education that have been exacerbated by COVID-19, we briefly reflect on trends in international student mental health. Specifically, we call attention to culturally and regionally specific challenges, stigma on help-seeking behaviors, COVID-19-specific stressors for international students, and the need for culturally responsive practices. Instead of clinical factors on mental health illness, we are focusing on common stressors and challenges international students face, followed by workable and realistic practices to support their mental health.
