Allophonic Variations of Stop Consonants in a Speech Synthesis-By-Rule Program
Ainsworth, W. A.; Millar, J. B.
International Journal of Man-Machine Studies, 8, 2, 159-168, Mar 76
A computer program for synthesizing speech by rule from phonetic data has been modified so that the rules for generating stop consonants depend upon context. Listening tests have shown that this expedient can increase the intelligibility of stop consonants in isolated CV syllables from 68 percent to 92 percent. (Author)
