The Exponent Maze: An Opening for Creativity
Rivera, Kira; Peabody, David
Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12, v116 n6 p442-447 Jun 2023
In this article, the authors describe an algebra 2 class activity, called the Exponent Maze, that had students practice many mathematics problems, display their creativity, and work together collaboratively by creating their own mazes. The authors discuss how they introduced the activity, what the students created, and how creating mazes can be expanded to other topics and grade levels. By sharing the maze activity, it might help mathematics teachers find ways to incorporate student creativity, differentiate mathematics problems organically for students, and provide alternative ways for students to demonstrate the mathematics they know.
