Spina, Francesca
Journal of Correctional Education, v74 n2 p56-71 May 2023
Research indicates that meditation-based programs can be rehabilitative for incarcerated populations. Specifically, these programs can help promote positive well-being, reduce recidivism, and help with relapse. This article reviews the effectiveness of existing research on meditation-based programs in correctional populations. The results of existing studies indicate that meditation-based programs can be an effective tool to help rehabilitate people experiencing incarceration. The article highlights major findings from previous research, offers suggestions for improving the implementation of meditation programs in correctional settings, and identifies gaps that could be filled by future researchers.
