The Environmental Movement: Consensus, Conflict, and Change
Buttel, Frederick H.
Journal of Environmental Education, 7, 1, 53-63, 75
This study examined the social bases of support for the environmental movement in Wisconsin between 1968 and 1972. Initially the movement had wide public support in the social structure. The counter-movement emerged comprised of groups dependent on industrial, resource-exploiting jobs. Support reverted again to upper-middle class non-resource exploitive workers. (MR)
