Teaching Statistics -- A Dynamic Excel Approach
Mangiero, George A.; Qayyum, Arif; Cante, Charles J.
Journal of Education for Business, v97 n7 p439-444 2022
In this paper the authors present a unique approach to teaching introductory statistics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The approach uses a feature in Excel called "spinners" to dynamically adjust key variables, such as sample size, confidence levels, and probabilities, among others, to enable an expanded discussion of many topics without being hampered by tedious calculations, which take up class time unnecessarily. This Excel based model eliminates dependence on internet availability, deals with multiple topics at once, and is compatible with presentation tools. In addition, the models developed by the authors are dynamic models, whereas, most online models are static. These features are not available in online applications.
