A Culture of Equity Calls for Leadership from the Top
Gant, Monica Minor
Learning Professional, v42 n6 p26-29 Dec 2021
Building a culture of equity requires ensuring that leaders and school staff have a shared vision for what educational equity means, what it looks like, and how to get there. It also necessitates a willingness to hold people accountable to the vision and the work needed to make it a reality. This takes a clear road map for achieving the consistent vision of equity across levels of the system. The Delaware Department of Education is embracing this approach to building a systemic, statewide culture of equity. The journey includes creating a statewide understanding of educational equity, applying that understanding to shape the work of each department, and mapping out the steps it will take to achieve the vision of equity. This article presents how Delaware is creating a statewide vision for equity and mapping out steps to achieve it.
