Physicians' Awareness and Attitudes Toward the Retarded

Questionnaires completed by 32 pediatricians and general practitioners from a large midwestern city indicated that a large number of them were unfamiliar with local services for the retarded, and 80 percent recommended institutionalization for some of their severely and profoundly retarded patients, while 54 percent made such recommendations for the moderately retarded.
