Social Justice-Oriented Activity Models for Young Learner's Biliteracy Development in a Korean Language Classroom
Yun, Sehyun; Shin, Hye Young
NABE Journal of Research and Practice, v11 n1-2 p13-21 2021
This article presents seven social justice-oriented model activities for 1st and 2nd grade Korean-English bilingual students. Considering the age and language ability of the target students, two picture books addressing social justice issues were selected as a main instructional material for those activities. Through the suggested model activities, teachers are encouraged to link their language standards with social justice standards, select quality picture books, and create critical questions and activities that challenge students' biases and develop empathy toward others while building target language skills.
