Stress Generation of First-Year Undergraduates
Barker, David B.
College Student Journal, v54 n2 p141-156 Jun 2020
This study examined variables associated prospectively with the occurrence of dependent stressors encountered by first-year undergraduates. Stressors consisted of life events, daily hassles, and chronic stressors, the latter two being subjected to confirmatory analyses to identify their dimensionality. Results indicated that student status characteristics, personality, self-concept, perceived social support, depressive symptoms, and avoidance coping were associated with the occurrence of stressors 10 to 20 weeks later. Patterns of associations were not consistent across stressor categories, suggesting the necessity of identifying both the form and dimensionality of stressors when estimating their occurrence.
