Curriculum Programming in the General Education Setting for Students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
Leytham, Patrick A.; Nguyen, Nghia; Rago, David
TEACHING Exceptional Children, v53 n6 p404-413 Jul-Aug 2021
The purpose of this article is to assist general and special educators in identifying and implementing effective academic programming in the general education environment for students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Throughout this article, the authors attempt to demonstrate how students with ASD can successfully receive instruction in a general education classroom. The collaborations between the general and special educators should be viewed as a process instead of a strategy or approach. With the rising number of students with ASD in general education environment, it is indispensable that both educators work together to plan and develop a sound road map using the ASD Curriculum Model (ASD-CM) process to teach and improve the learning outcomes of students with ASD in the general education environment.
