Extinguishing Teacher Burnout

A large majority of teachers experience high daily stress. Over time this stress can lead to teacher burnout, which can manifest itself psychologically, emotionally, and physically. While stress and its effects are unavoidable, these pressures can be mitigated if appropriate action is taken. When teachers have professional development opportunities, they are able to learn new, complex skills that can influence their competence and, in turn, improve their psychological wellbeing. Furthermore, providing teachers with collaboration structures such as mentoring and peer-professional groups enables teachers to alleviate emotional exhaustion leading to teacher burnout.
