Hozak, Kurt
Journal of Education for Business, v96 n5 p327-334 2021
This article describes a web-based application that can be used to help teach linear programming (LP) using an active learning approach in business courses such as management science and decision analysis. The software asks 42 integrated questions that guide students in creating product mix models and performing related analysis in Excel with Solver. Automated grading and extensive commentary provide fast feedback and help students more holistically understand topical relationships. Humor helps make learning the material more engaging and fun. The application uses randomized data and cell layout locations to encourage academic integrity and make repeated practice more value-adding. Assessment results suggest that the application offers challenges and supports learning.
