Digital Transformation: Equipping Advisors for the Journey, Students for Success
Pelletier, Kathe; Hutt, Chris
Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning, v53 n3 p30-36 2021
Digital transformation (Dx) refers to a series of deep and coordinated culture, workforce, and technology shifts that enable new educational and operating models and transform an institution's business model, strategic directions, and value proposition. Dx initiatives on many campuses are anchored in student success goals. As a result of this focus on student success, advisors are being equipped with technological solutions. Advising policies are increasingly data-informed and data-driven. The examples of technological solutions in the hands of advisors described in this article show the need to not only advance the use of technology but also to develop new skillsets and mindsets in order to make the necessary shifts to culture and workforce. The integrated, holistic view of student success that might inform strategy and business process changes requires supporting training and development for individual advisors in data literacy and ethics, as well as new ways of operating at the institutional level. These efforts are critical to build momentum toward transformation.
