Using the Ability of Certain Insects to 'Revive' as a Vehicle for Inquiry Projects in Science
Vidal López, Manuel; Yebra, Miguel Ángel; Membiela, Pedro
School Science Review, v102 n380 p40-45 Mar 2021
Inquiry projects can play an important role in science education, despite involving significant challenges for teachers and students. Based on historical references, small groups of students and their teachers carried out inquiry projects on the ability of certain insects to 'revive' after remaining immersed in water for some time. The striking nature of the phenomenon under study was a key factor in motivating all participants and arousing their interest. Despite the fact that the students pointed to certain problems associated with scientific research practices, the overall assessment of the participants was clearly positive, highlighting the importance of learning science by doing science.
