Change and Innovation in Quality Assurance: Accreditation and the Opportunity of COVID-19
Eaton, Judith S.
Change: The Magazine of Higher Learning, v53 n1 p50-54 2021
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a catalyst for change and innovation in higher education, building on prior calls to rethink college and university commitment and operation. The pandemic has also been a catalyst for change in the current practice of quality assurance through accreditation. All major activities associated with review of institutions and programs are becoming virtual. This article discusses how accreditation now has an opportunity to move to an ambitious innovation agenda: expanding an accrediting organization's scope of work, broadening standards and policies, and exploring the development of a cross-accreditation, consolidated service platform.
