How We Describe Scores: Consensus or Free-for-All?
Lichtenstein, Robert
Communique, v49 n4 p1, 32-34 Dec 2020
A neuropsychologist describes a child's performance on a measure of short-term verbal memory as falling in the low average range. Another neuropsychologist reports that a child scored in the below average range. A third neuropsychologist describes a child's performance as mildly impaired. Yet, all three are referring to the same score on the same test. How can this be? This article discusses the need for consistent scoring descriptions and offers some suggestions for new strategies.
