Quality Sport Coaching in Action: The Application of the National Standards for Sport Coaches to the High-Performance Sport Context
Moreno, Tony
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v33 n6 p36-41 2020
Professional and elite organizational achievement and success in sport are strongly associated with the ability of administrators, coaches, athletes, and constituents moving all efforts in one unified direction. It must be considered that the pathway to sport success from youth to elite competitor can be considerably complex and lengthy. For these reasons, it is important that quality coach education and a holistic approach to athlete development be considered within the context of elite performance expectations. Thus, it is a central focus of this article to express why the National Standards for Sport Coaches (NSSC) and the respective seven core responsibilities be considered and integrated by all professional and elite organizations. Further, adoption of these standards can be used by key stakeholders to underscore the support for and implementation of holistic coach education throughout all stages of the athlete development framework, thus effectively emphasizing a positive mission and vision of the respective governing body or sport organization. Adoption and implementation of the seven core responsibilities from the NSSC can help navigate barriers and initiate efforts to establish a positive culture that can enable the coordination and alignment of all resources central to the holistic and sporting success of the organization.
