Eagle Pass High School: A Community's High School
Garza, Karla Adelina; Graham, M. R.
American Educational History Journal, v47 n2 p173-192 2020
Over the past century, American schools have been the focus of researchers and educators seeking to improve the education of the country's children. Few studies, though, have examined what the schools--their physical presence and the changes within them--have meant to the students who attended those schools (Currens 2017; Kilinc and Burlbaw 2011; Singer and Shields 2017). This paper looks at one school building, the Eagle Pass High School built in 1938. Serving as the single high school for the town's entire population for nearly eighty years, it has represented community and shared identity to the citizens of Eagle Pass, Texas. Findings from interviews with community members who attended the school building and those who serve as teachers or administrators, who were previously students, are reported.
