NABE Journal of Research and Practice, v10 n2 p47-56 2020
Recent research in the area of physical activity points to the benefits that kinesthetic activity has on learning. The use of movement during the school day has benefits for the cognitive processes of learners, including language learning. This article focuses on dual language programs, where students learn acquire literacy skills and learn academic content in two languages. In order to provide English learners more opportunities to develop language skills, we propose an innovative way to teach academic language, integrating physical activity and language development. With this approach, students attain physical and mental benefits while enriching their language learning.
