Campus Housing in the Community College Setting: Benefits and Challenges for Residential Living
Taylor, Franklyn; Buck, Kaley; Kane, Tracey
Community College Enterprise, v25 n2 p77-93 Fall 2019
This paper presented the case for residential living in the community college setting. The increase in the number of students attending community colleges has led to a consequent demand for and increases in on-campus housing at two-year institutions. The information provided in this paper provided a critical assessment of the many academic, social, personal, and financial benefits while addressing challenges that college administrators should consider for a successful residential experience. The paper noted the dearth of literature on community college on-campus housing which limits the scope of conversation on the issue in spite of the successes in community college residential programming and advocated for expanding the literature, outcomes, and assessment of community college housing which will inform decision-making and open additional paths for student success.
