School Mental Health for All
Adams, Sarah
Management in Education, v34 n1 p28-30 Jan 2020
Globally, the number of children and adults being diagnosed with a mental health condition is rising (Bor et al., 2014), leading to mental illness being described as a global burden (Vos et al., 2015). Governments around the world have been developing visions, policies and practices to reduce mental ill health through preventive measures and interventions. Notably, in the United Kingdom, schools are positioned at the forefront of promoting positive mental health whilst reducing and preventing mental ill health and stigma (Department of Health and Department of Education, 2017). This article considers mental health in schools by exploring what this may mean for children and young people (CYP), teachers and leaders.
