"The Tonight Show" Vocabulary-Review Games
Keegan, Kelly
English Teaching Forum, v57 n4 p36-40 2019
As a teacher of an intensive class for college-level students that focuses on learning the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) vocabulary, Kelly Keegan wanted to create and play vocabulary-review games that encourage flexibility and spontaneity in authentic contexts. This article describes how she created games that give students opportunities to use the specific TOEIC words in conversation and storytelling. Additionally, the games are lighthearted and allow students to get to know each other. An avid fan of Jimmy Fallon, Keegan describes how she adapted two games played with celebrity guests on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" to use in her English-language-learning classroom, giving her students the opportunity to practice using their vocabulary in creative and interactive ways.
