Creativity plays a pivotal role in a child's development. However, schooling sometimes hinders instead of encouraging this developmental process. This article reviews five tasks designed to teach English as a foreign language and simultaneously encourage students' creativity. The impact those tasks produced in a first-grade class are presented. The data were collected by teacher-researchers and included a study sample of eight students from a first-grade class of 32 during two academic periods in 2015. The analysis was carried out using the grounded theory method in which researchers attempt to move from data to theory through a process of category identification and consolidation resulting in theory as the product. The research indicates that students were able to express their ideas and thoughts during problem-solving situations, give hypotheses, and find alternatives that helped them overcome challenges by thinking, analyzing, and designing through creativity.
