Incorporating Mathematical Modeling into the Undergraduate Curriculum: What the GAIMME Report Offers Faculty
Bliss, Karen M.; Galluzzo, Benjamin J.; Kavanagh, Kathleen R.; Skufa, Joseph D.
PRIMUS, v29 n10 p1101-1118 2019
To promote and facilitate the teaching of math modeling throughout the K-16 setting, the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Applications and the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics recently published the GAIMME (Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Mathematical Modeling Education) Report. This paper provides insight into how the GAIMME report can be a valuable asset to undergraduate faculty in terms of better understanding how K-12 students engage in math modeling and how to create a continuum so that college mathematics courses, both pre-existing and perhaps newly developed, can support and further develop those skills.
