Argues that it seems difficult to defend the position that the only way to eliminate hostility that results from culture differences is to reduce or eliminate such differences; however, the prerequisities of meaningful ethnic identity are lacking -- i.e. a commitment to distinct, important values, and a readiness to use resources to preserve them.
