Improvisation: A Creative Theatrical Technique to Engage English Language Learners
Piccoli, Margaret W.
TESOL Journal, v9 n4 Dec 2018
This article addresses how theatrical improvisation can be used as a creative teaching tool to develop English language learners' listening and speaking skills, to create an environment that encourages them to use the target language, and to gain confidence in their own abilities and experiences to become successful English speakers. Improvisation can achieve these goals by mimicking the creativity of daily language interactions. Finally, an improvisational lesson example is provided detailing a few activities and the structure on how to implement the technique.
