Risk-Based Process Safety in Chemical Engineering Curriculum
Forest, Jerry J.
Chemical Engineering Education, v52 n4 p287-293 Fall 2018
This paper will describe risk-based process safety content that meets an ABET, Inc. Program Criteria requirement to include the hazards associated with chemical processes that is used in Louisiana State University's chemical engineering curriculum. The process to select the curriculum content follows what was used to define the outline for the Center for Chemical Process Safety resource book "Introduction to Process Safety for Undergraduates and Engineers." Risk-based process safety elements are widely used in industry and exposure to tools associated with understanding hazards and risks helps prepare students for practical application early in their career.
