How to Start an Academic Competition in Your Child's School
Peters, Pamela M.
Parenting for High Potential, v7 n3 p18-21 Sep 2018
Research suggests that academic competitions provide opportunities for content differentiation as well as emotional growth. Participating students learn how to cope with subjectivity, engage in friendly competition with their peers, get exposed to role models in their field of interest, and build resilience. With limited resources, school districts often do not prioritize these types of programs. Starting a competition program at your child's school is a great way for parents to share their talents and support their child's school by providing challenging programming. Pamela Peters took the initiative and successfully started a Math Olympiad program at her child's school and encourages other parents to do the same. Following are the questions she is most often asked by parents on how to get started.
