Flancbaum, Meir; Lichtman, Jeremy
Communique, v43 n4 p1, 16-18 Dec 2014
Tic disorders, including Tourette syndrome, can significantly impact student functioning in the school setting. As professionals on the front line, school psychologists are in a unique position to guide students with tics. With proper education about tics and a collaborative approach, they can ensure that students with tics are maximally supported through providing education, determining the need for and identifying of appropriate learning accommodations, assisting students with the implementation of tic management strategies, helping students cope with the social--emotional difficulties associated with tics, and providing referrals to mental health professionals.
