The Keen Johnson Building is symbolic of Eastern Kentucky University's historic role as a School of Opportunity. The construction of the Keen Johnson Building was inspired by a desire to create a student union facility that would not only serve the physical needs of Eastern students but also awe and inspire them, and enrich their spirits.
