Although a concerted effort has been made during the past 15 years to knock down the architectural barriers facing the handicapped, the existence of over 400,000 wheelchair handicapped and more than two million people wearing leg braces or with artificial legs makes it imperative that architectural designs produce completely barrier-free buildings.
