You Want Me to Learn How?: Today's Teachers Have a Range of Personalized Learning Options Available to Them, Often for Free. Which Will You Choose in Your Quest to Be a Better Teacher?
Dill, Dennis
Educational Horizons, v93 n3 p6-8 Feb-Mar 2015
Today's teachers have many personalized learning options available to them, and several are free. The author discusses how to use social media for professional learning, describes edcamps where much of the focus is on teaching best practices, technology usage, and connecting and collaborating with other education professionals, and the advantages of attending those events. The theme of this article is that teachers can take a wait-and-see approach and just do what is required of them by participating in the standardized district trainings, or take control of their own learning and seek out new sources of knowledge. Although the latter takes a bit more effort, the rewards are immeasurable.
