Okutan, Mehmet
Education, v135 n1 p93-100 Fall 2014
The emergence of new approaches in educational management, have made mandatory to consider the school administration as "school leader". School principals of today's schools, are obliged to become individuals who influence teachers and students by dint of their personal characteristics, getting rid of being one who utilizes legal powers via instructions. Whether or not to be educational leaders of existing school principals will provide clues whether schools can be re-established or not. The purpose of this study is to reveal whether current school principals are school managers or not. For this purpose, teachers studying master's degree in the field of EYTPE have been consulted. A question with two options like "1) My school manager is a leader, because… 2) My school manager is not a leader, because…" has been asked to the teachers studying master's degree. The result of "My school manager is not a leader" has emerged due to 2nd question has been chosen more among these questions. The answers received to these questions have been examined and assessed one by one. The findings have been set forth concerning the school principals are not leaders on account of which characteristics. It has also revealed the clues with regard to school principals are in need of which education for being able to be leaders. For example; it is suggested that they are not leaders because of their inconsistencies in human relations. Or there are teachers who say they don't have a mission and vision. In this study, recommendations have been presented with discussion of these findings obtained.
