Recognition of Female-Spoken and Male-Spoken Evaluative Words: Implications for a Theory of Schizophreniform Development
Heilbrun, Alfred B., Jr.
Journal of Genetic Psychology, 123 (2nd half), 297-308, Dec 73
Investigated adolescent males' recognition of evaluative words spoken near threshold by male and female voices. Closed-style subjects (theoretically characterized by social withdrawal and perceptual blocking) recognized fewer female-spoken (relative to male-spoken) words; this finding is consistent with adaptive-style theory.
