Argues that an implicit commitment to an autonomous morality produces a dilemma for blacks: for like all disadvantaged groups, the most strategically useful moral system is determinism; it is paradoxical for a group of people to demand the preconditions of moral autonomy by appealing to the opposing ethic of determinism.
