Politics of Academic Natural Scientists and Engineers
Ladd, Everett Carll, Jr.; Lipset, Seymour Martin
Science, 176, 4039, 1091-1100, Jun 72
Analyses of a 1969 survey of over 60,000 faculty members in colleges and universities in the United States indicate that natural scientists are to the ideological left of engineers, but more conservative than social scientists; that more successful and influential scientists and engineers are more liberal than the rank-and-file; and that if changes in role orientation of scientists and engineers are occurring, this is not the result of the influx of younger practitioners.
