The chairman and faculty from four departments in each of eight public 2-year colleges in New York State were surveyed to determine: (1) the status of the department in the organizational structure; (2) the relative influence of the chairman and his colleagues in the department; and (3) the relationship between degree of faculty influence and both faculty morale and departmental objectives.
