Broadening Participation in Pathways to In-Demand STEM Careers at CSUB (Year 4 Report)
Jianjun Wang
Grantee Submission
California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) is completing the fourth year of its five-year grant, "An Equitable Pathway to In-Demand STEM Careers," launched in Fall 2021 to strengthen STEM degree completion and career readiness for Hispanic/Latinx and low-income students. Year 4 demonstrated continued expansion of pathway supports and strong performance across four core components: internship participation and experiential learning, peer mentoring and academic guidance, undergraduate summer research participation, and year-round research involvement and scholarly development. Guided by an integrated "Triple A plus RBA" framework--linking Activities, Artifacts, and Associations with Results-Based Accountability--the evaluation provides a comprehensive assessment of program reach, quality, and impacts on student success across groups. Findings show clear alignment between funding objectives and measurable student outcomes, including evidence of positive gains for students with diverse levels of academic preparation. The report concludes with three strategic recommendations designed to strengthen program sustainability and support long-term institutionalization in the project's final year.
